More time to read - thanks to winter and Octane No. 2
With the onset of winter and the short days, longer reading sessions are once again the order of the day or night. Reading is a wonderfully cozy affair, especially in a warm bed, and Octane No. 2, hot off the press, comes just in time. The team around Gabriele Spangenberg and Berthold Dörrich have now served up a delightful menu for the second time. Even the "Roadbook" makes you smile and you would like to react immediately, if only there wasn't this classic media break (print magazine to Facebook) and yes, you are lying in a warm bed.
Scrolling on, you soon come across "Generation Gulf", where racing cars such as the Ford GT 40, the Porsche 917, the Mirage GR7, the Porsche 908/3 and the Aston Martin DBR9 compete for attention.
It continues with the iconic Renault R4 and then jaws drop at the sight of the photos of the Mercedes W125 in the Grossglockner Alpine panorama.
Two special Opel GT derivatives are the subject of Jeroen Booij's article "Only flying is more beautiful". The restoration of the Lindner Nöcker E-Type also leaves no room for fatigue and the two Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS from Pininfarina and Bertone are reminiscent of the warm days of early summer.
But the warmth soon comes to an end, as a BMW M1 is shown in the snowy Alps under the title "the super sports car that went out into the cold". Now we are glad to have a warm comforter again.
The Bugatti 57 Atlantic is the focus of the next article, then a veteran of the German car engineering scene has his say: Hans Metzger, father of the 911 engine and the man behind the Porsche 917.
Of course, there is much more to discover in Octane 2, not least the cab ride with Matthias Zierau, who still drives people from A to B in a Peugeot 404 Superluxe in Berlin for cash.
