Will today's cars ever mature into classic cars?
In our recent survey of Zwischengas readers, we also raised the question of whether today's cars (e.g. an Audi R8 or an Alfa Romeo Giulietta) would ever mature into classic cars.
Well, the verdict was optimistic, but not very clear. Although 52.6% of readers see no reason why this should not be the case, the rest are skeptical and divided into two camps.
One group, which believes that today's cars only have a chance of becoming classic cars in individual cases, sees technical problems as the main obstacles.
In addition to the widely discussed electronics issue(39.2%), this group generally sees the lack of availability of specialist knowledge as a challenge, as well as the difficulty of being able to replace missing parts at a later date due to the materials or production techniques used. In addition, many readers consider today's cars to be "unrestorable".
For the other group, today's cars lack emotion and the reasons why they should ever be considered a cultural asset.
