Summary
Fiat hit the bull's eye with the Fiat 850 Coupé presented in 1965. Almost 350,000 of these small and compact sports coupés were sold at attractive prices. The combination of mass-produced components and pleasing Italian styling appealed. The car had hardly any real weaknesses, but many strengths. This report goes into the history and technology of the Fiat coupé, describes driving experiences and is illustrated with many photos, the original brochure, technical data and a sound sample.

The Fiat 850 Sport Coupé is actually an ideal car for today's traffic regime. You usually feel faster than you are and, thanks to the manageable power of the 900 cm3 engine, you don't constantly come into conflict with speed limits. There are also no problems with the handling, and the design of the car is pretty and distinctly Italian. Due to these characteristics and the comparatively high proportion of women among the drivers, the compact Fiat was also known as the "secretary Ferrari" at the time. The history of the Fiat 850 Sport actually begins with the Fiat 600, which saw the light of day in 1955 and in principle already had all the technical equipment that was later used as the basis for the 850 saloon and the associated sports models.
