Bread and butter for the gourmet (car connoisseur quiz)
"Bread-and-butter" cars are normally understood to be well-made vehicles for the masses, automobiles that master everyday life and take all the strain year in, year out. Because they offered themselves as affordable platforms, they were also used by coachbuilders, designers and small series vehicle manufacturers as a basis for developing significantly more exclusive and interesting, but still frugal and easy to maintain vehicles.
This is also how the pretty Italsuisse convertible pictured above, designed by Pietro Frua in the 1960s, was created.
