The future of urban mobility? (Almost) everything has been there before
07/17/2020
Perhaps some of our readers have already heard of the Triggo. This is an electric vehicle from Poland that is designed specifically for city driving and short distances. The engineers have installed some interesting technical solutions in the city car, which should also be able to drive autonomously at some point.
For example, the front wheels can be retracted, which reduces the vehicle width from 148 cm to 86 cm. The steering works according to the "drive by wire" principle, and the top speed is automatically reduced to 25 km/h when the front wheels are retracted. The turning circle is seven meters, also thanks to the steerable rear wheels. And the Triggo can lean into bends and, according to the manufacturer, can be driven almost like a scooter.
We have already seen many of these innovations in the past, for example in the Inter 175A or the Mercedes-Benz Carver (prototype). In any case, the Triggo is actually reminiscent of the cabin scooters and microcarsof the 1950s, and it is no coincidence that the two passengers sit one behind the other.
It is well known that 50 years ago, cabin scooters disappeared from our roads again because car buyers wanted full-size cars. It remains to be seen whether the Triggo, which is due to go into series production in 2021, will be a success. The conditions are of course different today, the motivation for the Triggo lies in environmental protection and the efficient use of traffic space.
