Deciding on subject as color versus black and white (question of the week)
Books with black and white photos sell less, but online viewers are also less interested if there are no color photos to entice them. Is this really true? We wanted to find out in a " question of the week" . We asked whether our readers would prefer color photos to black and white photos.
Over half (51.5 %) prefer color pictures to black and white images if both are available, but can also live with black and white photos if there is no color alternative.
38.4 % do not care whether a photo is in color or black and white as long as the content is correct.
6.1 % even prefer black and white photos to color photos, while only 0.5 % do not like to look at black and white photos.
And 3.5 %, for the sake of completeness, could not agree with any of the answers given.
However, the overall tenor is clear. Most readers prefer color images, but are willing to compromise if the subject is only available in black and white.
