And now an electric Cobra?
07/07/2020
Hardly any other car is as strongly associated with its specific engine sound as the AC/Shelby Cobra. The V8 roar is simply part of it, one would think. AC Cars obviously sees it differently, because now an AC Cobra is coming onto the market that is electrically powered and therefore has no engine sound. Whisper, whisper, or as the marketing slogan says "our smoothest move yet".
58 units are to be built for the 58th anniversary and the price is quoted as £ 138,000. For this you get a Cobra that is significantly heavier than the original (1250 kg), but accelerates hardly any worse (0-100 km/h in 6.7 s). The range for the AC Cobra Series 1 electricis quoted as 240 km, which is the maximum range for a V8 Cobra after racing. Today, however, this requires a 54 kWh battery and not a 68-liter tank. Inside, the electric Cobra is intended to be reminiscent of the original; the bodywork is made of plastic and is visually similar to the early 289 Cobra.
Whether this sports car can even be registered in this country is another question. And whether you can (or want to) do without the V8 thunder is up to you to decide. You can already order and pay a deposit ...
