Battery legend - simply fill and start?
05/15/2020
Doesn't it look beautiful, the 12-volt Fiamm battery? Such batteries were installed ex works in Alfa Romeo and Innocenti, among others.
In fact, the Ferrari 195 Sport Touring Berlinetta, which won the Mille Miglia in 1950, also had a Fiamm battery on board. The company has been in existence since 1942 and, in addition to batteries, it also built car horns, among other things.
Fiamm has survived to this day. The fact that a battery from the 1970s has also survived in new condition is not a matter of course. In fact, it is a so-called "new old stock" (NOS) battery, i.e. a spare part that remained unused on the shelf.
In this case, not only unused, but also dry. In principle, you can fill this battery and then charge it (over a longer period of time), and it will probably even work.
However, the passionate battery collector and originality fan Stefan Dierkes , who was able to buy the battery pictured here at auction on eBay, will probably put it on his shelf and enjoy its elegant appearance.
