Michel Piccoli and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint
05/20/2020
Michel Piccoli passed away on May 12, 2020 at the age of 94. He was one of the great French actors and probably almost everyone has seen films with Piccoli in leading or supporting roles. I can remember one movie in particular, "Les Choses de la Vie" (The Things of Life). In this 1970 film, shot under the direction of Claude Sautet, Piccoli plays alongside Romy Schneider.
The central element of the film is a car accident to which the architect Pierre Bérard (Piccoli) falls victim in his Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint due to a stalled cattle truck. The life and problems of the main character are told in flashbacks, with the Giulietta always visible.
Bérard (Piccoli) was unable to sort things out before his death in the movie, let's hope Piccoli managed to do so in his real life.
P.S. A remake of the 1994 film "Le Choses de la Vie" was made in 1994 with Richard Gere in the leading role. Instead of a Giulietta, he drove a Pagoda (280 SL). However, the remake doesn't come close to the original, which is also due to the fact that Piccoli is much more convincing as the architect than Gere.
