Wouldn't it be practical if you could simply open up the car in the middle to make it easier to access the mechanics and technology, and perhaps even the luggage? Well, for many reasons this would probably not be a good solution in practice, but for trade fairs and motor shows, cars have already been opened up completely to give onlookers a better view, as the picture of the Pontiac Grand Prix from 1964 (above) shows.
However, the Americans were probably not the first to come up with this idea; seven years earlier, a Panhard Dyna was also on display in an unfolded state in Geneva.
