Things are sometimes different than they appear

A reader recently warned us that vehicles with incorrect descriptions were being advertised on zwischengas.com. Specifically, it was about a 1971 MGB GT advertised as an original Swiss vehicle.
It was clearly visible in the pictures that this car was equipped with attributes of the coupés delivered in the USA. So was it a US import?
We looked into the matter and spoke to the seller. The car was indeed registered for the first time in Switzerland in 1971, an official delivery. But the car clearly had the American specification, i.e. the typical "side indicators" (additional indicators on the fenders) and the American dashboard.
There is no clear explanation for this phenomenon, one can only assume that vehicles originally intended for the American market were diverted (perhaps at favorable conditions) to other markets with more demand. But perhaps an MG expert reading this blog knows more? If so, we would be delighted to receive a comment. (Click here for the advertisement , there are also more pictures)
