Not everything always turns out as expected or feared!

In 1977, the magazine "auto motor und sport" showed a preview of the future Mercedes-Benz car range. A new SLC was announced for 1980, and a new SL, possibly as a Targa or with a bow, was expected a year later at the latest. As usual, the drawings were skillfully done by Mark Stehrenberger.
However, the predicted model launch did not actually take place, as the SL models of the R107 series continued to be built until 1989 and were then replaced by the R129, while the S-Class Coupé (W126) came as the successor to the SLC in 1981.
And fortunately, Mercedes dispensed with a cabriolet and once again presented a classic open-top sports car in the form of the R129.
In any case, the expected 1981 convertible would not have been really convincing ...
