Something like this only happens very rarely! A new racing car is developed that throws many conventional paradigms overboard. And the car immediately wins at the first start. But that was the case with the Lotus 49, invented by designer Colin Chapman and driven to victory by Jim Clark, who was behind the wheel for the first time in practice for the Zandvoort Grand Prix, as Graham Hill had done the test drives.
A wonderful film by Ford, who were responsible for the engine, entitled "First Time Out" looks back on this special event.
