Classic car owners don't want to let the coronavirus pandemic get in the way of their enjoyment (Question of the week)
When we launched this " Question of the Week" two weeks ago, the coronavirus issue cast much less of a shadow than it does today. The situation can change that quickly. In view of the steady increase in event cancellations, we wanted to know from Zwischengas readers how the coronavirus problem was affecting their own behavior. While the first respondents were probably still relatively optimistic about the future, later participants were already seeing a very different picture as the threat developed into a pandemic. In fact, the weighting of the individual answers changed slightly over time.
47.2% see little reason to change their own behavior significantly. They continue to drive their old cars, but avoid larger events. And indeed, you could say that you can drive much more freely these days, traffic jams are the exception rather than the rule and the roads are clear. However, is it just as much fun if you can't go to a restaurant at your destination, can't/shouldn't meet friends and colleagues and are threatened with other restrictions?
25.2% stayed at home and used the media to find out more about what was going on.
10.3% see no reason to change anything in their behavior.
3 % are hoping for cheap vehicle offers and are observing the vehicle market, 3.3 % are turning away from the "classic/youngtimer" hobby in these times.
A clear 11.1% did not find a description of their own behavior in any of the answers, perhaps because they are now using the time to complete long overdue and postponed work in the garage or because they may finally have the opportunity to complete the documentation on their car.
The survey and its analysis certainly need to be put into perspective a little, because if the question were asked again today - around two weeks after the lockdown - more people would probably switch to the "lower" answers in the survey, as happened during the survey.
Here is the graphical analysis of the 369 participant votes:
We have already launched a new "Question of the Week" , this time we want to know how you feel about classic car care - do you prefer modern or traditional?
And of course you can still read all previous "Questions of the Week" in the specially maintained topic channel .
