Thomas Geis, head of training for classic car bodywork and vehicle construction at the Schweinfurt Vehicle Academy, said it clearly at the press conference: "Mechatronics specialists are great at diagnosing and replacing, but when it comes to repairing, that's where the problem lies".
His vehicle academy aims to counteract this, and he and his employees will be demonstrating what is required using a Mercedes-Benz tail fin at Retro Classics Stuttgart (until March 1, 2020).
They will be hammering, welding and sewing. Whether saddlery or sheet metal work, everything is on show and the public is also encouraged to take part. It's worth taking a look in Hall 3, because it's always interesting to watch a craftsman at work.
