The little-known fathers of the modern SUV
03/15/2020
Today, SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicles) are the largest category of new car registrations. The beginnings of this type of vehicle date back to 1946 and, not surprisingly, the father of all SUVs was the Willys Jeep Station Wagon in the USA. Just like modern SUVs, the Jeep Station Wagon was not originally intended primarily for steep off-road terrain, but for the widest possible range of everyday use, especially as it initially lacked four-wheel drive.
Between 1946 and today, countless off-road vehicles, recreational vehicles and off-roaders were introduced and built, but many of them have long since been forgotten. And most SUV drivers today probably have no idea about the ancestors of their beloved vehicle category.
Well, we want to fill in a few knowledge gaps here and have put together one of our entertaining car connoisseur quizzes to identify lesser-known SUV predecessors this time. Take part, it's fun and you'll learn something in the process.
