Almost forgotten - Zwischengas has been online for eight years now
12/20/2018
We have entered the ninth year of Zwischengas almost unnoticed. Yes, it was exactly eight years ago that we went public with Zwischengas, and a month earlier we had gained our first experience with the beta phase. In an early newsletter, we republished a test from 1956 . At that time, Automobil Revue had the exclusive opportunity to test drive and measure the Uhlenhaut SLR .
The measuring equipment seems pretty old-fashioned today, but the newsletter design and other things we did eight years ago seem almost as old-fashioned.
The road-going racing car took 7.1 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h, and only ran out of breath at over 260 km/h.
Impressive figures for a car that is now over 60 years old. A lot has happened since then, including at Zwischengas.
We have written and edited over 8700 reports, short articles and news items. Printed out and illustrated with some of the more than 900,000 photos stored on Zwischengas, this would amount to around 33,000 magazine pages, enough for over 200 thick magazines in the format of our annual magazine, which we have been publishing since 2015.
Our online magazine archive has grown to over 520,000 pages. To give you an idea of this volume, the digitized pages lined up together make up almost half the circumference of the earth.
Since our beginnings, 4.5 million readers have visited us and viewed almost 70 million pages. Eight years ago, we could never have imagined these figures.
But we don't normally look back, we look forward. Next year will bring many new things and we certainly won't run out of ideas. Out of around 10,000 car brands that have disappeared, we have only documented 300 of them, so there is still room for improvement. And our desire to get to know more and other cars and people has not diminished by a "μ".
Our thanks go to everyone who has accompanied us on our journey so far and will continue to accompany us on our next steps!
P.S. If you would like to browse through our early newsletters, you can find them in the newsletter archive from the first facelift in February 2011.
