How it all began many years ago

Agreed, the photo is not a masterpiece, but it is a valuable memory. It was taken shortly after the mid-seventies, on the carpet of my childhood/teenage room.
I had neatly arranged and photographed my model car collection at the time. I had even developed and enlarged the photo myself. And a few days ago I came across it again.
Obviously I was already a car fan at the age of 16 (give or take) and I was particularly taken with the sporty vehicles. The front row shows a fairly complete Porsche 917 collection. But you can also see the Ford Mustang from Corgy Toys in purple, the BMW Turbo from Schuco, the Formula 1 monoposti from Dinky Toys and the steerable VW Beetle that I had converted into a Herbie clone. Many a franc in kind was spent on these model cars back then and they shortened the waiting time for my 18th birthday, when I could finally pick up my learner's permit and drive around in my father's 1:1 Datsun.
Incidentally, the model cars all still exist and are stored in an attic somewhere, waiting to be rediscovered and dusted off. And the good thing about them? There is hardly any risk of damage, only the glue of the self-assembled plastic kits is unlikely to have survived the test of time.
Perhaps I should go looking for these mementos again ...
