Do you remember Gulf, the gasoline brand? It was also available in Germany and Switzerland. Racing fans in particular wanted to fill up their cars at the filling station with the Gulf symbol. This was due in no small part to Gulf's advertising from 1971:
"Now our cars can fill up with a brand thatWorld Champion Porsche fills up with: Pistensaft.
And that at the Gulf filling stations, which are waiting for the little fire chairs on many a beautiful street corner in Germany. They can now hum away with the Pistensaft just as heartily as the world champion Porsche does.
Porsche and Gulf have been working together on the racetracks for two years. In last year's racing season, the Gulf Porsche took seven victories. And congratulations: the one-make world championship title went to Zuffenhausen.
From then on, the people at Gulf simply called their oils and fuels "Pistensaft". You can now buy it at all Gulf filling stations. "
Who wouldn't want to fill up at the same place where a Porsche 917 gets its fuel ... and then there are those great colors in the logo ...
For the sake of completeness, here is the entire advertising page from back then. This can of course also be found in our picture collection of the most beautiful car advertisements ...
