How the beetles rolled over everyone

When the British were asked if they wanted the Volkswagen after the war, they declined with thanks. They found the car too impractical with its only two doors, the noisy air-cooled engine in the rear, the lack of heating and the unattractive body with no significant storage space. So the Beetle was allowed to be built locally in Germany instead of the presses and production aids being transported to Great Britain, as happened with the pre-war Opel Kadett in Russia.
And the rest is history. The VW Beetle became the most produced car in the world, with 22 million units built and exported to over 150 countries. It became a popular figure and a symbol of the robust, simple car that could handle almost any transportation task without class. And today, the Beetle is one of the most popular and most successful classic cars in our part of the world in terms of registration.
Thorsten Link has produced a 45-minute television report for SWR entitled " The Beetle - Volkswagen for the world " , which was broadcast last Monday evening at prime time. Anyone who missed it can catch up on it via the SWR media library or via the replay function of their TV box, if available.
They will not only be able to listen to the thoughtful analysis of Carl Horst Hahn, who was head of VW in the 1980s, but also meet collectors and fans who cultivate the Beetle cult today. Also on display are the oldest surviving examples of the pre-series and series Beetles, old Beetle TV commercials ... and much more. Interesting not only for Beetle fans.
