Enzmann - a car, a movie and four brothers
12/10/2013
Last Friday, December 6, 2013, Jörg Huwyler 's almost finished documentary about the Enzmann and its makers was premiered.
The name Enzmann will be familiar to many classic car enthusiasts. Dr. Emil Enzmann built a Volkswagen-based sports car with a plastic body at the end of the 1950s. Around 100 cars were produced and the small sports car manufacturer in Entlebuch attracted a lot of attention, but it was not destined for long-term success. The large manufacturer Volkswagen was too recalcitrant and the production of the small sports car was too costly.
The film "Enzmann - Die Autobauer aus dem Entlebuch" (Enzmann - the carmakers from Entlebuch) shows very well the motivation behind the Enzmann brothers becoming car manufacturers - it wasn't just Emil alone. It shows the beginnings of the Enzmanns' passion for cars, which they indulged in as boys and remained faithful to until they reached old age. Four of the brothers, now all around 90 years old, were present at the premiere and were happy to share anecdotes and experiences from their rich lives.
The film not only shows the makers but also the process of creating the car using the example of a New Enzmann. And Fredy Lienhard will be able to take delivery of one of these for his car in a few weeks' time, so it was no coincidence that the premiere took place right there.
What makes the film a gem are the embedded film and image documents from the past. And, of course, the combination of people, environment and technology, which director Jörg Huwyler has very sensitively incorporated into an entertaining documentary.
The film is also expected to be available on DVD from January 2014 (approximately) (information will soon be available on the production company's website), and broadcasts on television and at events are being discussed. The film is definitely worth seeing.
A whole series of articles on the Enzmann sports car have already been published on Zwischengas.
We would like to thank Stefan Fritschi and Jörg Huwyler for the pictures published here.
