Classic pearls of the future - Wiesmann MF3
12/03/2013
An icy wind is currently blowing against the Wiesmann company, but this should not obscure the fact that this company has managed to build attractive and sporty vehicles for many years, 1600 in total to date.
The MF30 roadster, with which the company started series production in 1988, was followed by the MF3 roadster, which adopted the straight-six engine from the BMW M3 (E46), in line with BMW' s model development. Underneath the attractive plastic bodywork, most of the old features remained the same, with a tubular lattice frame planked with pieces of aluminum forming the basis and the technical components coming mainly from BMW. With a kerb weight of around 1180 kg and an engine output of 343 hp, the result is a powerful driving performance that need fear no comparison. In terms of design, the narrow roadster combines retro elements with current trends.
In principle, Wiesmann could also be seen as a German TVR, as the construction principles and company philosophy are not dissimilar, except that the German sports cars are/were quite a bit more expensive, which does not necessarily increase the market.
The MF3 will continue to be built and should the company be given a second life after the insolvency proceedings opened in summer 2013, it will even be possible to order the successor to the future classic as a new car. The signs are good, as the management announced on November 28, 2013 that the company would continue (with new money?).
