The Jaguar refueled at Pavesi
12/06/2013
The picture looks nostalgic, although of course a Jaguar Mk I 3.4 Litre could also stop at a service station in the Pavesi highway restaurant today. But the shape of the petrol pumps and the Autogrill lettering on the building immediately give away the fact that this is a historical photograph. Black and white was standard in 1961, color was a noble luxury.
It must have been great back then. There must have been comparatively little traffic on the highways and the Jaguar 3.4-liter was certainly one of the fastest vehicles ever. In any case, the lively Italians in their Fiat and Alfa Romeo saloons had little to oppose the powerful Englishman. But the refueling stop probably took a little longer.
Incidentally, Autogrill has a long history: Mario Pavesi invented the modern restaurant for motorists back in 1947.
We were grateful to receive this picture from one of our readers and, after carefully scanning and minimally editing it, we are happy to share it with all Zwischengas Intensive users. Of course, you can also find the romantic shot in the Zwischengas archive . And of course you can also read a dedicated report on the fast Jaguar saloons .
