The evolution of the Lotus Elan in race trim
04/05/2012
The Lotus Elan underwent a relatively major development in racing from 1962 until the 1970s.Updateswere added every year to keep it competitive.
Hard discs were replaced by universal joints, and an external oil cooler indicated an additional dry sump lubrication system. The wheels became smaller and wider, which gave the car a crouched and hamster-cheeked stance and made it necessary to widen the plastic bodywork. The whole appearance suited the little racer and gave it an aggressive and extremely competitive look.
However, all this "tuning" can also be exaggerated and drift too far away from the original design. Many an example can be found in historic racing in America. But the "Spide "r recently discovered in Australia is also a prime example.
But let's put it as a question: who likes this car?
An original Elan from 1963 is shown for comparison.
