Smoke and fire in Hockenheim
04/15/2012
The program may not have convinced every racing fan, especially if they had already visited the Hockenheim Historic last year, but there was still no shortage of exciting moments on the first day of this year's edition! And there was no shortage of smoke and fire either, much to the chagrin of this Jaguar driver...
... who got into trouble when his car first smoked and then started to burn ...
... ... so much so that the driver had to seek the emergency exit ...
... to get out of the car as quickly as possible and without getting his feet too hot.
Smoke also arose in the Youngtimer Trophy, because nobody - neither the VW Beetle nor the Porsche - wanted to let anything burn.
But the other series also really stepped on the gas, as you can see from the Chevrolet Corvette Gransport (picture at the beginning).
The battle of the dwarves was also so hearty that a Mini got too warm ...
... and had to reach for the fire extinguisher.
But even "normal" driving generated a lot of heat, as these glowing brake disks on a monoposto in the "Boss GP" racing series prove.
Flames also came out of the exhaust pipes, whether single ...
... or double, as on this Renault-Alpine A310 in the Dutch Youngtimer Trophy.
A detailed race report on the Bosch Hockenheim Historic will follow shortly on Zwischengas.
And if you read this blog post in time (i.e. on Sunday morning), you might still be able to drive there. The weather is better than feared and it's fun to watch the vehicles from almost 80 years of automotive development.
