When you run out of road (in Hockenheim) ...
What looks like a successful rally interlude is in fact a lucky escape from a gravel trap. The BMW M3 ran out of road in the Sachskurve at the Hockenheimring, as the saying goes.
In fact, it probably ran out of talent, as the road had not changed from the lap before. The English coined the expression "running out of talent".
At least he was able to free himself.
Running out of talent, or the road, happens in both modern and historic motorsport. At the Bosch Hockenheim Historic, a whole series of drivers had to come to terms with this fact. The Lola T292 had to use the emergency exit, and when the stalled machine was started, it made its displeasure known with clearly visible expressions.
A Formula 1 car did not fare much better.
The driver of the Monteverdi Formula 1 overtook himself in the Sachskurve, was suddenly facing the wrong way and had to save himself in the gravel.
And the driver of the powerful March CanAm racing car also ran out of road when the engine ran out of power ...
... which earned him a ride behind the tow truck.
