Porsche 917/30 - braked on the Solitude
07/23/2017
He couldn't get past second gear, said the driver of the Porsche 917/30 yesterday at the Solitude Revival. The car was actually quite good to drive on the circuit. The pace car simply drives too slowly.
You have to know that the Porsche 917/30 was the fastest sports car ever in the early seventies and dominated the CanAm championship with 1100 hp under the hood. In 1975, when the championship no longer existed, a 917/30 drove a record lap at Talladega with an average speed of 221 miles per hour, i.e. almost 356 km/h.
Of course, it is not allowed to drive that fast during the Solitude Revival this weekend. The track would not be secured well enough for that, nor would the spectators be able to see much of the speeding car.
But as a driver, you would of course still like to shift into fourth, or at least third gear ...
The Solitude Revivalis still in full swing, and today, Sunday, the many attractive cars are once again doing their demonstration laps ...
