No fully comprehensive mentality back then

The world was a different place 30 or 50 years ago. Back then, anyone who bought their first or even second car usually bought a cheap second-hand car that they could pay for and, if necessary, replace if it broke down in an accident or something similar. Hardly anyone wanted to afford fully comprehensive insurance for these cars, as this would usually have been too expensive. The cars were then usually worked on diligently to keep them in good shape.
Nowadays, however, young people go to the dealer and choose a new car, which is not cheap by any means, and rent it for two to four years. It goes without saying that the rental company declares fully comprehensive insurance to be necessary, as this is the only way to replace the car in the event of damage.
Different times, different mentality. I certainly liked my colleague who bought an old MG B GT at the end of the seventies after losing his (perennial) Datsun 1600 on a bend. His comment at the time was that the MG wasn't too fast, so he was less in danger of speeding ...
