Children's eyes light up - classic car tour with young patients
Driving a classic car is fun per se, so it's even better when you can make someone happy with it. On July 23, 2017, the classic car drive for children with cancer and their families took place in the area around Schwarzsee FR.
The children, who are being treated at the Inselspital in Bern, spent a week's vacation with their families at Schwarzsee. This vacation week under medical supervision has been held since the 1990s, made possible by the Arche Fund. Many of the families affected would otherwise have no opportunity to go on vacation, and the shared experience is very valuable for them during this difficult time.
The vintage cars have been part of this vacation week for three years now. On July 23, Christina Brauckhoff once again rounded up over three dozen classic car owners to take the young and old vacation guests and their companions for a drive. The passionate MG driver does this out of personal motivation and with a lot of heart and soul.
Once again this year, some of the drivers came from far and wide for the ride. Anyone who saw the shining eyes of the children when the classic cars arrived knew that the effort had been worthwhile.
The families were allowed to choose a vehicle in front of the hotel. Should it be the big Chevrolet, the racy Ferrari or the funny 2CV? After some back and forth, all the passengers were settled and the two-hour drive could begin.
There was a stop for drinks and sweets on the way. The conversation between three kids in the parking lot was amusing: "Look, I rode in this one!" "Cool, what it looks like inside!" "You know, in the old days there were no normal cars like today, there were only cars like this!"
Another important part of the stopover was the handover of the donations collected during the trip. This time, the head paediatrician Dr. Kerstin Hagemann was able to accept 4,900 francs. This increased the amount that Christina Brauckhoff has collected for the Ark Fund in the classic car and motorcycle scene to date to 22,800 francs. Chapeau!
The classic cars were back at Schwarzsee before dinner. The families had had a great time, as had the classic car drivers, and we think there could hardly be a better way to indulge in the classic car hobby.
