Summary
Launched in 1968, the Ford Escort was designed from the outset to also perform sporting feats, but the very fast variants were too expensive for normal drivers and everyday use. This changed with the 1970 Mexico, which was introduced by the British factory as a result of its great success in the London-Mexico endurance rallies. Now there was 1.6 liter displacement, 86 hp and all kinds of rally accessories at affordable prices. This vehicle report describes the special model, which was produced in considerable numbers, and shows it in many pictures, including sound samples.

It was on November 17, 1967 that Ford began producing the Escort in Great Britain. It was unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show in January 1968 and was available to buy from March 1968. They called it the first European Ford at the time and there were sporty and powerful variants right from the start, as the credo "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" was still omnipresent at the time. In the secret test center in northeast London at the beginning of 1968, members of the press got to see the new Escort for the first time. There were good reasons why this took place in Great Britain, as the new car basically replaced the Anglia. It also received many technical components from the British Ford inventory.
