Driving Princess Diana's Audi convertible?
The British Princess Diana, who died 20 years ago, is associated with a wide variety of cars, such as the Mercedes S-Class, various Aston Martin models (because of her husband) and the quintessentially British Mini Metro. But an Audi convertible?
In fact, Lady Diana Spencer is also said to have driven an Audi Cabriolet, a 2.6E model from 1994 to be precise, at least according to Coys, which is auctioning the car at the Coys Blenheim Palace Auction on July 15, 2017.
The six-cylinder convertible was made available to her by Dovercourt Audi in St. Johns Wood; it was never registered to the Princess herself, although this is said to be quite common for the royals' cars.
It is also not known how long Diana drove the blue Audi with the registration number L541 GJD herself, but the confident estimate of £ 35,000 to £ 40,000 (EUR 39,000 to 45,000, CHF 34,000 to 50,000) is proof enough that it was a significant period of time. How else could the price, which is around five to ten times higher than that of a "normal" first-generation Audi convertible, be justified?
