It is not really clear why it was called the "white mouse". After all, it was a VW Beetle that was used by the police and therefore painted white and black.
Be that as it may, the Beetle was popular in the police service and was used by the Zurich cantonal police from 1960 to 1970, for example. Hundreds of them, presumably. And yet the police's own workshop had to build a replica with a 1.3-litre engine when they realized the appeal of an old police car. The originals had all been taken out of service and scrapped.
And so the "white mouse" on display is a faithful replica. But it is still likeable ...
