What drivers used to know - switching to summer operation

In the past, car owners were responsible for far more than they are today. For example, they used the choke to start the car and regularly checked the oil, water and brake fluid levels by hand. Some cars even had to regulate the heat of the intake air, such as the Fiat 128 3P Coupé (pictured above).
This was not complicated, you just had to think about it. At the beginning of the winter season, the cover was turned to the winter position, as described in the operating instructions, in order to direct heated air into the air filter via the exhaust manifold.
In summer, the cover was then turned back to draw in cool air. Not complicated, but effective. And probably long forgotten.
