Summary
Between 1969 and 1975, Zagato built the Junior Z based on the Alfa Romeo Junior Spider 1300 with a body designed by Ercole Spada. More aerodynamic, lighter and generally sportier, the small GT was intended to encourage sports drivers who wanted to reach their destination quickly on public roads to buy it. However, due to its relatively high price, this was not entirely successful, and the subsequent 1.6-liter version in 1972 did nothing to change this. The low number of units makes it a sought-after collector's vehicle today. This report traces the roots and characteristics of the Alfa Romeo Junior Z, showing the car in historical and contemporary photos and in the original sales literature of the time.

Preview (beginning of the article)
The year is 1972, you've worked hard and now it's time to treat yourself to something good, something sporty that you don't see on every corner. It should also make an impression, but above all it should be fun. It's no coincidence that you visit your local Italian Alfa Romeo dealer. The choice on offer doesn't make the decision easy. There is the Alfa Romeo GT Junior with the 1.3 liter engine and the Spider with the same engine, both very pretty. Both the Bertone-designed Sprint GT and the Spider from Pininfarina are also available with larger engines. And then there's the Junior Z, an unorthodox-looking fastback coupé that leaves all others behind in terms of price and only has room for two people.
