Der Bugatti T 57 Aérolithe ist eines der meistbewunderten Autos der Geschichte, nur leider hat das Original nicht überlebt. Als Showcar stand es aber dem ebenfalls sehr seltenen Atlantic Modell, von dem immerhin drei Exemplare noch existieren. Dieser Bericht gibt einen kurzen Überblick über die beiden Modelle und zeigt eine originalgetreue “Recreation” des Bugatti T 57 Aérolithe auf vielen Bildern.

Ursprünglich hatte sich Tom Andrews den schrottreifen Bugatti 57 Ventoux nur gekauft, um auf dessen Fahrgestell einen "Atlantic" nachzubauen. Doch dann stellte sich das Chassis als das falsche für dieses Vorhaben heraus – und die Karosserie als die falsche für dieses Chassis. Denn 1937 war Fahrgestellnummer 57579 als Stromlinien-Limousine von Gangloff ausgeliefert worden. Dieser Artikel dröselt die Verstrickungen auf.

Ende der Sechzigerjahre konnte man noch auf freiem Feld einen Bugatti 57C Ventoux entdecken und für billiges Geld kaufen, denn niemand wollte diese rostigen Vorkriegsautos haben. Der Schweizer Enthusiast Walter Grell aber hatte ein Händchen für rare Franzosen und lagerte den eleganten Kompressor-Bugatti über viele Jahrzehnte, so dass er bis heute im verwitterten Originalzustand erhalten blieb und im Frühling 2015 in einer Ausstellung von Scheunenfunden im Pantheon Basel zu sehen sein wird. Dieser Bericht erläutert Entwicklung und Technik des Bugatti Type 57 und zeigt den original erhaltenen Wagen im Detail, ergänzt um historischen Abbildungen und einen 24-seitigen Originalprospekt.
