Do you know the VW Atlantic or the Caribe?

Yes, of course you would have recognized the cars immediately, only the name and some details seem unfamiliar. In Mexico in the early 1980s, the VWGolf was sold as the "Caribe" and the Jetta as the "Atlantic".
Visually, the differences were limited, with the rectangular headlights looking somewhat sadly out of the grille being the most striking feature alongside the US bumpers.
The Atlanic (Jetta) looked somewhat sportier with its twin headlights (picture above).
Both models were uniformly powered by a water-cooled in-line four-cylinder engine with 1714 cm3 and 72 DIN hp, equipped with carburetor and automatic height compensation. The Caribe could also be purchased with a diesel engine, which produced 52 hp with 1588 cm3.
Shifting was possible with four gears or a three-speed automatic. Tires measuring 155 SR 13 had to suffice.
Eh voilà, now you know the VW Atlantic and Caribe models.
