The Fiat Multipla as a cult classic in the footsteps of the Duck and Beetle
06/30/2024
Some classic cars enjoy the sympathy of the masses as well as the favor of collectors and classic car buyers. Good examples of this are the VW Beetle or the Citroën 2CV, which fetch high prices at auction even though they were built in large numbers. The early Fiat Panda (with the asymmetrical radiator grille) or the Bulli also belong in this category. What all these cars have in common is that they did not primarily correspond to the current perception of beauty when they came onto the market.
This would also apply to the Fiat Mulitpla , which was sold from 1999 until 2004 in its original design, which certainly took some getting used to.
In any case, the six-seater Fiat is not lacking in charming details, e.g. the rear lights are almost heart-shaped.
And the side mirror, together with the high beam headlamp mounted high up and at the rear, almost looks like a cartoon character.
The colorful interior and the many unusual details also speak for the Fiat. And the high utility value anyway, but this is often not the decisive factor in its suitability as a cult classic. More important is probably the relative rarity and perhaps also the availability of well-preserved examples? In the case of the original Multipla, the supply is not particularly large, let's see how prices develop in the future ... (Classic Data currently (2024) quotes EUR 3300 to 3600 for a Multipla in condition 2, there is certainly still plenty of room for improvement)
