Pants to pants - Peugeot 106 Kid
06/10/2024
No idea is crazy enough not to find a copycat at some point. And so, 20 years after the famous Jeans Beetle, the robust blue trouser fabric found its way back onto the seats of an automobile. As the name suggests, the Peugeot 106 "Kid" was primarily intended to appeal to young buyers from September 1993. It did this with a black trim strip below the side scuff plate, blue instrument panels, a folding rear seat bench and a center console that was already prepared for the installation of a radio. However, the receiver itself was extra.
Initially, the petrol four-cylinder engine with 50 hp from 954 cm3 was obligatory, with which the raging pocket could reach 150 km/h after all. For the 1996 model year, a 54 hp diesel engine was also available, whose unpretentious robustness went well with the jeans upholstery - although not necessarily with the character of a lively city car. But it wasn't just the seats and engines that were long-lived: while the Jeans Beetle was only available for three years, the Peugeot 106 wore the pants for almost five. In the summer of 1998, it was replaced by the Peugeot 106 "Open" - although this was not a convertible version.
