Edgy already existed decades ago
Recently, a colleague drew my attention to the similarities between the Tesla Cyber Truck and the Citroën Karin by Trevor Fiore. At first glance, both vehicles are indeed extremely angular and straightforward. Nevertheless, Fiore seems to have applied more finesse, as his design appears more nuanced, versatile and balanced, even if it took some getting used to in the end.
In any case, the reasons for the design of Fiore and Franz Von Holzhausen were very different. While Tesla had to succeed in shaping a vehicle body with stainless steel as a "truck", Fiore was aiming for a compact and low-drag shell for three people. This is why the Citroën Karin looks almost like a triangle from the front, which despite its width of 1.9 meters has a relatively small cross-sectional area thanks to its low height of 1.07 meters, while the Tesla forms a rectangle over two meters wide and 1.9 meters high (!) from the front. On the other hand, the Tesla can carry more people and, if necessary, transport two motorcycles on the loading area.
Von Holzhausen is unlikely to remember the Citroën Karin, but what would Trevor Fiore think of the Cyber Truck?
