An Italian alternative to the camper van
01/14/2024
As early as 1954, Alfa Romeo presented the T10 "Autotutto" Romeo at the Turin Motor Show, an all-purpose vehicle with a front engine (between the front seats), front-wheel drive, independent suspension all round and a twin-camshaft four-cylinder engine similar to that of the Giulietta, which delivered around 35 hp in the T10. Alternatively, a two-cylinder diesel engine with supercharger and 30 hp was also offered.
The T10 was used for a wide variety of purposes; it is unclear how many were actually converted into motorhomes.
In any case, the vehicle pictured began its career in a less exotic way and was only equipped as a camping vehicle during the restoration. The original diesel engine was left in the car, although the conversion to a twin cam with presumably more pleasant running characteristics would not have been a problem.
Now this attractive vacation car, which is certainly much rarer and more unorthodox than a VW Bus Westfalia or similar, is to be auctioned by Bonhams for EUR 90,000 to 110,000 on February 1, 2024 in Paris . For Alfa fans in particular, this should be an interesting alternative to a Samba at a similar price ....
