What else was there in 2001?
The year 2001 began, at least in the car magazine "auto motor und Sport", with a comparison of the dream sports cars of the new millennium: Aston Martin Vanquish, Bugatti Veyron, Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, Porsche Carrera GT and VW W12 (as a roadster). It didn't matter that they came in very different price ranges and that not all of them ever made it to series production. Fascination was the order of the day, you were still allowed to dream! And placed the five dreams in a hangar together with a Boeing 737.
2001 was also the year of the BMW M3 E43, and "ams" had it pitted against the Porsche 996 in a comparison test . And it won! Not least because of more space and a significantly lower price.
Interesting test reports were devoted to the Aston Martin Vanquish, the Porsche 996 GT2, the VW Lupo GTI, but also the Renault Avantime! The latter proved that it was still possible to think differently 23 years ago and also that not all cars were red back then.
In 2001 there was still a real selection of twelve-cylinder engines, even a VW could be ordered as a Phaeton with the luxury engine, the BMW 7 Series and the Audi A8 anyway.
But there were also more budget-friendly innovations on the market, such as a new Audi A4 Avant, a fresh BMW 5-series or a new VW Polo.
Reason enough to take another look at the 2001 " ams" vintage !
