No grey, no silver, no black, but lots of bright colors 50 years ago
Half a century ago, the world really must have been a much more colorful place. At least that's the conclusion you quickly come to when you look at the color chart for the Audi 80 from 1974.
There were 15 colors back then; silver or anthracite were not included. But rally yellow, cadiz orange, phoenix red, cliff green or metallic malachite and metallic viper green, to name just a few examples. The factory parking lot in Ingolstadt must have looked almost like an artist's palette.
And an Audi 80 in rally yellow was hard to miss, and it was probably no coincidence that the sales brochure featured a yellow Audi 80 LS on the front.
P.S. However, the story is not quite true. A close reading of the brochure "Audi 80. Farben Colors Coloris Colori Kleuren Färger" reveals that in addition to the 14 colors shown, there was also a 15th color that was not printed and that was called "A1 Black". Whether they simply wanted to save printing ink at the time or black was not important enough as a color is beyond our knowledge.
