Peter Sauber wins the first "Cogwheel of Walzenhausen" with the C3
On the weekend of August 20/21, 2022, there was a lot going on historically. People met in Safenwil, Ollon-Villars and also at Lake Constance for the sixth Walzenhausen-Lachen mountain sprint. With Mario Illien, Fredy Lienhard and Peter Sauber, a number of personalities from the world of racing were also in attendance.
Peter Sauber, who had not driven one of his cars for decades, was at the start for a second time this year with the C3 after the Kerenzerberg race in the C1.
Around 160 vehicles showed up on the mountain and thrilled the numerous fans. For the first time, the "Zahnrad von Walzenhausen" prize was also awarded to special, beautiful and successful classic cars or to personalities who have made a special contribution to motorsport.
The jury chose Peter Sauber and his C3 as the winner of this exclusive trophy. In addition to Peter Sauber, the Maserati 8CM from 1933 by Kurt Hasler and the Connaught Type A F2 from 1952 by Jean-Robert Greller were also nominated.
The trophy was created by a stone sculptor from Thaler sandstone with a cogwheel carved into it. The stone is intended to represent the mountain and the cogwheel the connection to racing on the one hand and the cogwheel railroad from Walzenhausen to Rheineck on the other.
This was the first time a prize had been awarded in Walzenhausen in 32 years, after Fredy Amweg was honored for the last time in 1986 at the last official race, as a four-time "Walzenhausen - Lachen" winner.
