Well, we have omitted two colors from the modern Polo, whose paint palette we compare with a 40-year-old Audi 50, basically the origin of the Polo. Bright red and a sand beige are missing, which simply had no place.
The comparison is nevertheless impressive, because the Audi 50 from 1978 had just one white and one silver shade, the rest were "real" colors. 40 years later, half of the paint finishes are white, silver and anthracite. If we had used a more upmarket Volkswagen or Audi model for comparison, the loss of color would have been even more pronounced, because luxury class models are hardly ever offered in yellow, red or light blue.
But that's the way it is these days, colorful is no longer in demand. 40 years ago, people still liked to order an orange, red or even green shade. They wanted to be seen and didn't rely on daytime running lights or sheer size ...
