Would you have recognized the car? We can help a little. The two prototype photos were taken in 1986.
The press release at the time announced that the car would arrive in spring 1987.
It was indeed the Alfa Romeo 164 designed by Pininfarina, and yes, the production version looked much more convincing than the two prototypes.
We published a driving report on the Alfa Romeo 164 a long time ago, and of course we have integrated the prototype pictures we have now found into it.
