Where to put the additional lamps?

Today, headlights arranged in pairs seem to us to be a completely natural and only correct configuration if a car is to have more than two lights at the front. But at the end of the 1950s, when twin headlights were still a fairly new idea, there was still some uncertainty as to their ideal arrangement. At least in the General Motors studios, no experiments were shied away from when designing the 1959 model and some adventurous chrome grimaces were created.
Why not position the additional lamps like two nostrils in the middle of the vehicle? Or rather one above the other? Perhaps it would be better to distribute the four headlights evenly across the entire width of the front... In the end, common sense probably prevailed, so that all GM models in 1959 appeared with conventional pairs of lights. Only Oldsmobile retained a touch of the scurrility that had been discarded and placed the indicators between the headlights.
