Look, look, Schoschone!
In the comments to yesterday's blog post , the question arose as to what actually happened to my Studebaker. That's actually a very good question - and I'm only too happy to answer it. In short, it still exists and has even been in Europe for some time. I only refrained from publishing a status update here every week for anti-self-promotional reasons. It wouldn't have been worth it, as there's not much to do to the car - and even less has been done so far.
Contrary to the usual horror stories about photo purchases from the USA, my beautiful Schoschone presented itself pretty much exactly as it was promised by the seller on first inspection - apart from the fact that when converting to twelve-volt electrics, the cables were apparently thrown into the car from several meters instead of being laid in some form or other, meaning that half of the consumers don't work.
However, the engine and gearbox are in surprisingly good condition. There is only one small flaw in the transmission: it is one of the few cars not to have been fitted with an overdrive at the South Bend factory, which is not exactly an advantage for use on modern European highways. So if you happen to have a Borg-Warner R10 (or an entire T96 gearbox) with a matching cardan shaft in your cellar: Please write to the editors.
