Where is the handbrake? (Car connoisseur quiz)
07/24/2022
Some people practically never need them, others use them to provoke spectacular driving maneuvers. We are talking about the handbrake or parking brake, which has been mandatory in roadworthy vehicles for many decades. Learner drivers of the past used them to prevent their car from rolling backwards when starting off on a slope, and when parking, the handbrake or parking brake ensures that the car stays where it should.
Our hand moves (after years of getting used to it) almost automatically to the corresponding lever/handle (or foot pedal). You would actually expect the position and shape of this device to be standardized to some extent, but it still isn't. A wide variety of operating patterns have been created for a wide variety of reasons and designers have often had a say in the matter.
We have selected a few examples from our extensive photo archive and put together a new car connoisseur quiz.
Can you identify vehicles by their handbrake or parking brake? Just give it a try.
