Lancia Beta 2000 in (historic) test - competition for BMW
Summary
After Fiat had rescued the luxury brand Lancia in 1969, the Beta Series 2 in particular was intended to revive Lancia sales from 1976. The factory promised "a comfort sedan that is unparalleled in its class". The stylistically and technically revised Beta also had sporting talent. This test report from 1976 explains whether the hoped-for success would have been possible.

The glamor and money of the noble Lancia brand were almost gone when Fiat threw in the lifebelt in 1969. Model tinkering continued and caused expensive worries for German buyers: used cars were rejected and the service network was initially far too thin. Around 300 of the 1,500 Fiat dealers have now been won over by Lancia; they are not standing on lost import ground. Deutsche Lancia GmbH in Heilbronn is identical to Deutsche Fiat AG. It brought a boost to business in 1975, 2500 cars were sold instead of 1000 to 1100 in the previous years. The target for 1976: around 6000 cars. Lancia sales were to be boosted above all by the Beta Series 2, delivered since February 1976.
