Founded by Vincenzo Lancia in November 1906, the company was known as the ‘brand of engineers’ due to its unconventional and progressive designs as well as its technical sophistication. Long before most of its competitors, Lancia cars offered self-supporting bodies, independent suspension - and self-cleaning ashtrays. In the pursuit of perfection, however, the company lost sight of development costs. From the 1960s onwards, Lancia teetered on the brink of insolvency and was finally taken over by Fiat in 1969. Lancia is still famous today for its successes in rallying in the eighties and nineties. After that, the brand went quiet. But: it still exists!
